St. Louis Cathedral

While on a little weekday get away with my hubby in New Orleans, we visited the French Quarter Festival, on Thursday.  While the men were hard at work, the wives roamed the streets of the Quarter...it was a fantastic 4 days!  Here is a peek of the square, and the beautiful cathedral.
Roman Catholic Archdiocese, St. Louis Cathedral was built in 1789 and rebuilt in 1850.  The cathedral is also known as the Basilica of Saint Louis, King of France, and its all-white, Spanish Colonial facade with three black spires is one of the most instantly recognizable landmarks in the South.  It is the oldest Catholic cathedral in continual use in the United States.

I love this church, and have many photographs of it.  Each time I go I get my camera out, this time was a treat...I have never been inside.  I actually had chills when I entered the doors.  I didn't know where to look first, the walls contain so much history and tradition.
I wish I had perfect photographs.  I do not, it was hard to capture them...and it wasn't a time to be "learning" my camera...so I snapped away.  With flash, without flash...some of each.  Here is a shot of the center isle.
And the stunning alter.  It was grand and you feel so small when you gaze at it.  Can you image the years of people, who stood here...
The ceilings are beyond beautiful.  They began painting them in the late 1700's...hard to believe.
 The back of the church.
This is as big as my kitchen, lol!  Isn't it just heavenly?  And hanging from those very high ceilings, it it the perfect touch.  I would love to run my fingers through the prisms, the sound would be glorious.
It was the best part of my day.  To finally go inside this wonderful building that I have admired so many times.  I will go back inside the next time I visit the Quarter.

  1. You did VERY well just "snapping". You've captured so much beauty...and there I was saying it looked like the castle at Disney World!! But it's every bit as magical!
