Spirit Lights?

I saw this on Facebook recently, and after thinking about it, I decided to write about an occurrence in my house, a few years back.  Was it a visitor?  I am not sure, I do know I was not dreaming...

What I saw that night, are very much like the lights shown in this photograph?  The ones I saw were blue, a very vivid blue...almost dancing and not in round shapes, more like strings of light.
I was asleep and had my dog Rocky with me.  I lost him in October, and miss his company every single day…still…

He was our sleeping buddy.  Hubby was offshore and I was in a deep sleep, but Rocky’s barking woke me up.  I opened my eyes and immediately saw the blue lights in the hallway.  I was frozen in fear and amazement...I watched Rocky, he saw them too.  I blinked my eyes and tried to make sure I was indeed awake, I was.  Like a child,…I closed my eyes and willed myself to NOT look again…I don’t know how much time when by, I am sure it was only seconds.  When I got the nerve to look once more, they were gone.  He was calm and I was not…I had to find a reason for the lights.

Our upstairs has two bedrooms with a small hallway in between.  I told myself there was someone at the house next door, and the lights reflected.  Actually, our neighbors had an older son who was in trouble a good bit, so I thought the Sherriff must have brought him home…and the blue lights were from the car.  Hahaha, I thought it sounded reasonable.  I ran to the bedroom and found the shade (black-out blind) down.  So now what?  Of course my sleep was interrupted and I do think I just got up and stayed up.  I thought about the lights and I told myself, rather calmly that I was pretty sure it was a spirit.  To this day I believe it was.  Steve’s mother passed away not to long after that.  But certainly if someone was coming to see her, they wouldn’t come to Louisiana.  And I haven’t heard of spirit leaving the physical body, prior to death?  I hope it was someone who loved me and just wanted to say hello.  I have never ‘felt’ anything in this home.  A wackadoo, NOW sister-in-law…told me she was psychic and said she felt spirits in our house.  But can I tell you, she is c.r.a.z.y…and I wouldn’t believe anything that came from her mouth.  Our house was at the time filled with antiques and old photographs still have some, so maybe the spirit was attached to them.  I kind of like the feeling of [something] visiting me.

I would love to hear, if you have a story similar.

  1. Wow! Kathy, what an experience! I don't have a similar story, but I do believe that spirits can manifest themselves physically. When, where, and why they choose to do so is something that I don't think can be fully explained. My faith reassures me that life here on earth is just a mist that appears for a little while, then disappears. The lights you describe may be just a glimpse of the beauty that lies ahead. Thanks for sharing your story.

  2. Kathy:

I've had a few odd things happen in my house. I always try to find "rational excuses"....but sometimes, there just aren't any rational excuses.

I've never felt threatened, so I like to think that if we have had visitors, they are friendly. Actually, I think it was my dad. There have been several occurrences, but this one stands out the most....

Gary and I were sitting in the living room watching TV. It was 11:30 at night. All of a sudden we both looked at each other and said..."do you smell that?". It was a very strong scent of peanut butter and maple syrup. All through my life, whenever my dad wanted something sweet he'd mix peanut butter and maple syrup together and eat it on white bread. The smell was so, so strong and it was watfting all around us. Then...it just disappeared. About a week later, I talked to my brother on the phone. He said "Guess what I had a random craving for last Friday night...peanut butter and syrup". I asked him what time he had the craving and he said "about 11:30".

Maybe it was just coincidence, but I don't know how to explain such a unique scent wafting out of nowhere and then just disappearing....then to find out my brother had a craving for it on the same night at the same time.

There were other odd things too, but they all stopped when my mom passed away. It was almost like my dad was just waiting around for her. After she died, it seems he left with her.

I do think there are "other-worldly" happenings. I wonder if they are always around but only certain folks can connect. I've heard that animals are very keyed in. Rocky saw what you saw!

It's fun to wonder and toss around ideas, isn't it?

  4. You certainly had a visitor...I'm convinced of that. And remember how keen a dog's sense is so Rocky felt it too...it wasn't just the "light" that you both sensed. I haven't had experiences with light but I have had experiences where I know people have come to visit me and talk to me. I've had experiences with things moving and I know that no one else did that. I believe. And think sometimes that's all we have to do. xo
